WHAT IS A FUNDAY?
It is a day filled with racing, go-to-ground, lure coursing, mock conformation and meeting of other Terrier owners. It is a Fun and Relaxed way to learn about the events held at a Trial. We welcome all Terriers to our Funday.
WHAT IS RACING?
When racing you will have to muzzle your terrier with a closed muzzle. (This is for theirs and the catchers safety.) You will load your Terrier into the chute. On the catchers que the chute will open and your terrier will take off after the lure (usually a piece of scented fur) that is attached to a piece of string that is pulled along by a Lure machine. The first dog to cross the finish line (behind the bales at the entry to the catch pen) is the winner.
WHAT IS GO-TO-GROUND?
This event was designed to simulate and test a Terrier's ability to hunt and work underground.
At the que of the Judge (or Member running the GTG) Your Terrier will be placed in front of a tube resembling a tunnel. Your Terrier will enter the tunnel and make it's way to the end where he will work the rat. (Working the rat is pawing, barking, howling, baying, or just watching it intently.) After your Terrier has successfully worked the rat, the Judge (or Member running the GTG) will call you to get your dog. You will open the lid and get your dog.
WHAT IS LURE COURSING?
During Lure Coursing a Plastic Bag is placed on the lure and at the que of the Member you will release your Terrier and he will take off after the lure on the course. You will get your Terrier from the catcher when he is through with the course.
WHAT IS CONFORMATION?
This is what people call "Showing" your Terrier. You will enter the Ring and a Judge will critique the Terrier. You will need to have a lead (held in your left hand) and be able to have your terrier stand for the Judge. The Judge will have you walk around the Ring with your Terrier. When the Judge has made their decision they will place you in Order of 1st through 5th. This is a great opportunity to get practice for attending a Trial with your Terrier.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE FUNDAY?
